Fund-raising event "THE HORIZON LIES AHEAD OF US ALWAYS"

"THE HORIZON LIES AHEAD OF US ALWAYS" is one the hightlight activities initiated by GIEU Vietnam with the aim not only to raise fund for helping children in need in the central Vietnam which is our next destination after the first week in Hanoi, but also to connect all members in the team together. This activity helps to make people get closer together, we believe. We hope that this event will bring a good impression about Hanoi to UM students.  And of course, we are going to have so much fun!

You are cordially invited to GIEU Vietnam 2013 Cultural Exchange Program by Vietnamese and American Students, “PHÍA TRƯỚC LÀ BẦU TRỜI” (The horizon lies ahead of us always).
Time: 16:00 – 19:00, June 5, 2013
Location: Bach Khoa University Library, No 1, Dai Co Viet, Hai Ba Trung, Hanoi.
Entrance ticket: VND 20,000

GIEU Vietnam 2013 (Global Intercultural Experience for Undergraduates) is an intercultural program that students from University of Michigan and Vietnamese students from Faculty of International Studies (Hanoi University) share their knowledge and understanding of culture, history and society of the two countries and especially about Vietnam as a country through our journey along the country, our living and work experience with people in Vietnam that we meet.

One of the important goals that GIEU Vietnam 2013 would like to reach is to bring the smiles to 103 children at the Do Luong social center in Nghe An with gifts that GIEU and kind donors would contribute in our fundraising event. Most of the kids are orphanage and disable who are in need of full care and love from the society.

Our fundraising event “Phía Trước Là Bầu Trời” is organized with the view of connecting young people together, but also calling for the kind donation from the community to our children. All the money donated will be used to buy gifts in kind (school supply, clothes, food. Etc) for the children at the center in Do Luong, Nghe An.

The event will offer a series of cultural exchange activities signify American culture by the participation of UM and HANU students as follows:
- American souvenir: Friendship bracelet, magazine, CDs, hemp jewelry, tattoo, keychain, etc
- Entertainment: Face painting, Calligraphy…
- Getting to know American culture
- Live music and Guitar, Games
- Learning American slang through hot topics: Greetings, dating, food, hobbies, fashion…
Film screening: “Living as one should” by Vietnamese director, Tran Van Thuy, about lives in subsidy period in Vietnam.

Come and join us to practice American English with students from University of Michigan, you will also learn more about American culture and share how much you care about social issue and development for a better Vietnam.

Welcome to GIEU Vietnam 2013!

Xin Chao! (or Hello in Vietnamese)

Who we are: We are a group of 13 undergraduate students from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor and Dearborn campuses and 4 students from Hanoi University in Hanoi, Vietnam.

We are all a part of the Global Intercultural Experience for Undergraduates (GIEU) program at U of M. This program emphasizes intercultural learning at various sites around the world.

What we are doing: 

Culture: We will live in work in Vietnam for four weeks in Vietnam to complete service work and learn about life in Vietnam

Adventure: We will travel throughout the entire country to explore new places and learn about the history of the country.

Friendship: We will make more friends in Vietnam and collaborate with Vietnamese students in volunteer projects

Education: We will learn about the education system and the political, social and economical aspects of the country.

Where we will be going: Our adventure begins in Hanoi, the capitol of Vietnam. We will travel to Ha Long Bay, Nghe An, Quang Tri, Hue and end in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)

When: Our journey starts on June 3 2103 in Hanoi and ends on the evening of June 29, 2013.
